Kesko's sales in January 2010

KESKO CORPORATION STOCK EXCHANGE RELEASE 12.02.2010 AT 09.00 1(2)

 

The Kesko Group's sales from continuing operations, excluding VAT, totalled €615.3 million in January 2010, which is down by 7.0% compared with the previous year.

 

In the food trade, sales in January were €272.6 million, a decrease of 5.2%. The sales to the K-food store chains were down by 2.5%. In January, there was one wholesale trading day less than in the previous year.

 

In the home and speciality goods trade, sales in January were €122.9 million, an increase of 1.8%. The sales of clothing and sports equipment developed especially well.

 

In the building and home improvement trade, sales in January were €142.2 million, a decrease of 9.6%. Sales in Finland were down by 5.3%. In foreign countries, sales decreased by 13.2% in terms of euros, and by 17.4% in terms of local currencies. In the Baltic countries, sales were down by 39.0%. In Russia, sales dropped by 17.1%.

 

In the car and machinery trade, VV-Auto's sales in January were €65.5 million, down 19.1%. The car tax levied on cars after 1 April 2009 is not included in the sales figures, and the comparable sales matched the level of the previous year. Konekesko's sales in January were €23.4 million, down 12.9%, because of the decline in the machinery trade market.

Change, % indicates the change over the corresponding period of the previous year.

 

In January 2010, the number of selling days in Kesko's wholesale was 19, which is one less than in January 2009. The number of retail selling days in January was 29, which is four more than in the previous year.
