K-rauta Gävle now opening is larger than the previous one destroyed by fire
A new store has been built to replace the K-rauta premises destroyed by fire in Gävle, Sweden in August 2006. The new store opens today on 16 August at 10.00, and the area has been expanded with about 1,000 square metres to approximately 8,000 square metres.
“Some changes have been made in the division of departments and in-store product displays have been increased,” says Store Manager Camilla Sjöholm.
Spotlighting has also been improved and thanks to the new higher shelves, additional information can be given to customers in the form of pictures. Display areas are surrounded by soft interior decoration materials and by the building, tool and house technology departments. Display areas provide good opportunities for presenting various ideas and solutions. Shopping in the attached builders’ yard in easy and fast, and any accessories can be obtained from inside the store during the same visit.
K-rauta Gävle’s destruction in the fire on 13 August 2006 was a great shock to the whole organisation and, above all, to the staff of the store.
“Only after 12 hours from the moment the fire had broken out the whole staff gathered to talk about the situation with the Red Cross crisis support and psychologists. Employees were told that the management of K-rauta AB will make every effort to continue employment contracts during the rebuilding period and that serving notices would be our last option. No notices were given, but instead together we searched and found alternative duties inside the company,” sums up Jani Jylhä , Managing Director of K-rauta AB.
Employees of the Gävle store have worked temporarily at K-rauta stores in other localities. They have assisted in finishing off the new K-rauta outlets in Umeå and Växjö for their openings, and in the expansion project of K-rauta in Norrköping.
