New ‘100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World’ list out: Kesko ranks sector-best globally

Kesko was ranked the best company in the world in Consumer Staples on this year’s ‘Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World’ listing. On the overall list, Kesko was ranked the best Finnish company. The other Finnish companies to make the 2025 list were Neste and Nokia.

The Canadian Corporate Knights published its annual list of the ’100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World’ at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Kesko is the only company in the world to have made the list every year since its inception in 2005.

This year, Kesko ranked the highest of all companies in the ‘Consumer Staples’ sector globally, and 36th on the list overall.

”Kesko’s consistent inclusion on the ‘Global 100‘ list shows how sustainable operations have been a priority for Kesko and K Group for over 20 years. Expectations for corporate sustainability have increased, and the criteria for the Global 100 ranking have also evolved over the years. Continued success in the ranking requires extensive, well-documented and transparent sustainability work,” says Lasse Luukkainen, Executive Vice President of Legal and Sustainability at Kesko.

The ranking of the world’s 100 most sustainable companies is based on a sustainability assessment in which over 8,300 listed companies were measured using 25 indicators related to environmental and social responsibility and good corporate governance.

With companies in the grocery store peer group, the assessment weighs especially sustainable investments and selections, focusing on, for example, how much the companies are investing in emissions-free energy, and what percentage of their selections consist of plant-based products.

In Kesko’s sustainability strategy, the focus areas are climate and nature, value chain, people, and good governance. Kesko has set short-term emission targets for its own operations, aiming for a 50% reduction in emissions by the end of 2034 from the 2024 baseline. Kesko has also committed to setting net-zero targets for its entire value chain, extending to 2050. Kesko aims to increase the share of net sales of sustainable products, and encourage its customers to make sustainable choices.
