“The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices are one of the key tools for investors to assess the ESG level of corporations. Sustainability and mitigating climate change are central to Kesko’s strategy, and we are committed to corporate responsibility and sustainability actions with a long-term focus. Our aim is to reach carbon neutrality in K Group by 2025, and to cut emissions from our own operations and transports down to zero by 2030. We also encourage our suppliers, our entire supply chain, and our customers to reduce their emissions,” says Riikka Joukio, Kesko’s EVP of Sustainability and Public Affairs.
Top industry companies globally selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices
The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices provide ESG investors an independent assessment of a company’s sustainability goals and efforts.
Companies are selected for the indices based on an extensive, independent corporate sustainability assessment conducted by S&P Global. This year, more than 10,700 listed companies were invited to participate in the assessment. The top 10% of companies in each industry are selected for index inclusion in the DJSI World.
In the corporate sustainability assessment for Dow Jones, Kesko received the industry best overall scores, for example, in the areas of climate-related targets, eco-efficiency, emissions, packaging commitment, human rights assessment and codes of conduct.
Other Finnish companies included in the DJSI World this year were Neste, UPM-Kymmene, Valmet and Wärtsilä.
Besides Kesko, European grocery trade companies included in the index were Ahold Delhaize, Carrefour and Metro. In Asia, top companies were President Chain Store and CP All Public Company.
