Developing our local food offering is a long-term effort

K Group grocery stores offer the largest selections of locally produced food in Finland, comprising as many as 50,000–60,000 products. Work is carried out continuously to develop the selections both at the stores and at Kesko. At the end of August, producers in the Turku region showcased their products to K-retailers at our Local Food Date event.

Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority suspects Onninen Oy of violation of competition law – Onninen denies the claims

The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority has been investigating Kesko Group company Onninen’s suspected violation of competition law for almost 10 years, and has finally decided to take the matter to the Market Court. The investigation has concerned a wide range of companies operating in the HPAC infra plastic pipe product market in Finland. The suspected violation concerns almost in its entirety a period of time before Kesko acquired the capital stock of Onninen from Onvest Oy on 1 June 2016. Consequences resulting to Onninen from the investigation were addressed in the acquisition terms and conditions. Onninen denies the FCCA claims of suspected violation of competition law as unfounded. Kesko is not suspected of participation in the alleged infringement.

Energy awareness on the rise – Finns intend to save energy with heat pumps, more energy-efficient lighting, and better faucets and insulation

Finnish consumers are interested in saving water and energy. According to a survey* by K-Rauta, consumers are joining the effort to save energy by favouring energy-efficient lighting, air source heat pumps, and showers and faucets that help save water.

Dawn of a new era: the first online grocery orders collected by in-store robots delivered to customers in Helsinki

Finland’s first automation-assisted in-store collection centre for online grocery orders is now up and running, and the K-Citymarket Ruoholahti hypermarket in Helsinki has delivered the first online grocery orders robots have helped to collect. This represents a new era in Finnish online grocery. Automation increases collection efficiency, which means, among other things, lower delivery prices for customers. However, customers can still choose from the store’s extensive selection of as many as 40,000 products.

Record-summer for electric cars – Volkswagen most bought EV brand in Finland, K Charge volumes doubled in a year

Interest towards electric cars has risen record-high in Finland this summer: the number of electric vehicles on Finnish roads is rising rapidly, and the demand for electric cars exceeds that of traditional cars in Kesko’s K-Auto stores. EV charging at our K Charge stations more than doubled compared to the year before in July.

K Group prepares to save electricity with plans to reduce lighting and adjust heating in its stores

K Group has been mapping out new ways in which it could reduce electricity use in its stores this autumn and winter. Proactive measures aim to reduce peaks in electricity consumption and help prevent potential electricity shortages in Finland. K Group estimates that it could save electricity via temporary extraordinary measures at times by as much as 15 to 20 percent.

Kesko’s sales in July

Kesko Group's sales in July totalled €920.8 million, representing a decrease of 3.6% in comparable terms. In July the number of delivery days was down by one year-on-year.
